Italian luxury group Prada remains committed to pursuing a dual listing but will not set a timeline until the move is within six months, CFO Andrea Bonini told CNBC in an exclusive interview. The company, currently listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, has seen speculation about a secondary listing simmer since 2022.
“We continue to believe it is the right thing to do. We will not commit to a timeline until that timeline is six months away,” Bonini said, emphasizing that such a step “will be the right thing to do at some point.”
Bonini noted that the luxury sector is showing signs of stabilization after a post-pandemic slowdown and plateauing demand in China. He pointed to the U.S. market as a bright spot, though he cautioned against “exuberance” fueled by potential bubbles.
Prada itself has logged 19 consecutive quarters of growth, driven in part by the “stellar performance” of its youth-focused brand Miu Miu. The group also recently expanded through the $1.375 billion acquisition of Versace from Capri Holdings, with Bonini suggesting further industry consolidation is likely.
The company is preparing for a leadership transition as Lorenzo Bertelli, son of founder Miuccia Prada, is set to succeed current CEO Andrea Guerra. No firm timeline has been set, but Bonini highlighted the advantage of having both generations involved alongside external executives.
“It gives us stability. It gives us consistency… having this stability and consistency is a great advantage and brings strong integrity to the brands as well,” he said.
Despite its operational resilience, Prada’s shares have declined 21.7% year-to-date, reflecting broader pressures in the luxury segment. The potential dual listing could offer a strategic repositioning to attract deeper capital markets access and diversify its investor base.
As Prada balances expansion, leadership continuity, and market volatility, its deliberate approach to the listing reflects a preference for prudent timing over rushed execution—a hallmark of the careful stewardship guiding one of luxury’s most iconic houses.
